Taking the decision to build a swimming pool in Coin is an easy one. Many people believe that in this climate a swimming pool is a necessity rather than a luxury. Selecting the shape, size and look of your swimming pool can be more difficult because there are so many options. Take your time to decide what will suit your swimming pool needs now and in the future. Here are some characteristics you may wish to consider:

Size The size of your swimming pool could depend on the size of your plot and how it fits into your garden, for example you don't want a swimming pool that is so big that you cannot fit any sun beds around it. A standard size pool is 8 x 4 metres and this is a good size for a family. A pool that is small may be cheaper to construct and maintain but if there is room for a large swimming pool you may opt for this for more enjoyment with children and guests. Stairs The steps into a pool can be square or round (roman steps) or you can even have a gentle slope mimicking a beach effect. Bear in mind that adults generally spend most time sat on the steps whilst children spend more time swimming. For example, an adult family may benefit more from larger steps they can lounge on rather than small steps that just provide access to the pool. Ladder A stainless steel ladder can be useful at the deep end of a pool for safety purposes. A ladder is also fun for children who are diving in and out and they can use the ladder rather than disturb you sitting on the steps.

Stone surround
A marble and cement mix is the best type of surround for a pool because it is non-slip, impermeable, hard wearing and easy to clean. If you want your swimming pool surround to be the same as your terrace, be careful to choose a slab that is non-slip, impermeable, easy to clean and easy to maintain.

Pump house
A prefabricated glass-fibre pump house can be sunk in the ground, these come with lids that lie flat on the surface or in the shape of a rock. The pump house needs to be big enough for any filtration equipment, e.g. filter, pump, salt machine, ph machine, swimming machine.

Incorporated Spa
Many people are now incorporating a spa into their pool. This can provide a lovely area for adults and can be great for entertaining guests. Spas that are incorporated within the pool water can have water jets and air jets, it will be the same temperature as the pool water and will be much cheaper to build and much easier to clean than a separate Jacuzzi.

Incorporated swimming machine
If you want to use your swimming pool for exercise there are machines that pump a strong jet of water into the pool that can be swam against. It's ideal for people who want to use their pool to keep fit but don't want or have room for a 15 metre pool.

Bench
A lot of families are now asking for pools to be built with a bench within the water because with a bench, the pool can be enjoyed for longer by people who don't swim or by older people or just people who want to relax.

Fountain
There are many different types of fountains on the market, e.g. mushroom fountains that spring from the pool floor, cascading fountains that fall into the pool from outside. Fountains are a nice feature that transform a standard pool into something more personal.

Slide
Children can have hours of fun sliding down into the pool with a large range of swimming pool slides made of plastic or glass fibre. Curved slides can look nicer and take up less room around the outside of a pool. Many slides have water attachments so that water cascades down the slide as well.
